Two River Theater Company announces 2006-2007 Season

RED BANK, NJ — Two River Theater Company, under the direction of Executive Producer Robert M. Rechnitz, Artistic Director Jonathan Fox, and Managing Director Guy Gsell announces the lineup for the 2006-07 Season, its second in its new Red Bank home and thirteenth since its start in 1995. In addition to the mainstage Theater Series, TRTC will also offer a “Best of New Jersey Dance” series featuring the Garden State’s premier dance companies, Young Audiences New Jersey series for children and their families, and an Emerging Classical Artists Series.

The mainstage series kicks off with Ain’t Misbehavin’ a rousing musical journey to the nightclubs of the Harlem Renaissance featuring music by Fats Waller. Running from September 27 – October 22, 2006, this 1978 Tony winner for “Best Musical” is based on a concept by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby, Jr. and will be directed by Saundra McClain. The scene shifts from 1930s Harlem to 17th Century France for the next play, Moliere’s satirical comedy, Tartuffe, from November 15 – December 3, 2006. Next on stage is Sam Shepard’s raw human drama A Lie of the Mind, winner of the 1986 New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play of the Year, from January 17 – February 4, 2007. In the spring, TRTC is holding open its March slot for a collaboration with New Dramatists. New Dramatists members or alums have written six of the last eight Pulitzer Prize winners and the last two Tony winners for Best Play. From March 7 – 25, 2007, TRTC will present one of the newest plays by New Dramatists’ most talented, up-and-coming writers. Rounding out the season is the uproariously funny Steve Martin adaptation of the Carl Sternheim play The Underpants. Martin brings a sophisticated literary sensibility to this entertaining romp, examining the politics of sex and sexism from May 2 – 20, 2007.

Two River Theater Company has already signed up more than half of its 2,100 current subscribers for the 2006-07 Season and expects that 75-80% of subscribers will renew their subscription before the June 1 renewal deadline. In addition, the TRTC Box Office is currently taking orders for new subscriptions for the 2006-07 Theater season at discounted rates of 20% off single ticket prices. Subscription prices range from $120-$215 based on performance date and time. Discounted student subscriptions are available for $60.

For the first time in its history, TRTC will also be offering mini packages of dance, classical, and family events for the 2006-07 Season:

The Dance series will feature New Jersey’s premier dance companies all on one bill: American Repertory Ballet (October 28 and 29, 2006), Umoja (February 10 and 11, 2007), Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company (March 31 and April 1, 2007), and Randy James Dance Works (June 2 and 3, 2007). Each company will perform on Saturday evening for an adult audience and on Sunday afternoon for a family audience. Evening packages are $95 and Family packages are $68 for the 4-performance series.

TRTC will present a Young Audiences New Jersey Family Series – a Saturday morning series for children and their families by some of the country’s leading performers: four-piece band Rockroots (October 14, 2006), hip-hop dance and music performers Urgeworks (February 17, 2007), storyteller David Gonzalez (March 24, 2007), and singer/electric violinist Caryn Lin (May 19, 2007). All performances begin at 11am and a 4-event package is only $40.

Following the success of its 2005-06 classical concerts series, TRTC will present a 4-event Emerging Classical Artists Series. Performers will be announced this summer and dates are set for September 16, 2006, November 4, 2006, February 24, 2007, and April 21, 2007.
