Two River Theater Company Announces

Metrovation Scholarship Winners for 2006-2007 Season

RED BANK, NJ — Thirteen Monmouth & Ocean County high school sophomores have been awarded scholarships to participate in The Play’s The Thing—Two River Theater Company’s intensive, year-long theater arts education program.  The 2006-2007 Metro Scholars are: Jamie Young (Barnegat High School); Rachel Feingold, Zara Feingold, and Alex Plenzo (Colts Neck High School); Ricky Pucci (Neptune High School); Frances Rivera (Ocean County Performing Arts Academy); Richard Barrella (Point Pleasant Beach High School); Zephan Ellenbogen, Rachel Gisleson, Michelle Joline, Marly Stasi, and Amanda Rothman (Red Bank Regional High School); and Caitlin O’Meally (Toms River High School South).

Named the Metrovation Scholarship, the program is funded for a second consecutive season by a $50,000.00 gift made to the theater by Metrovation, managing partner of The Grove. “The arts have been an extremely important part of my life since I was a child.  On behalf of myself and my two Metrovation partners, we are truly looking forward to watching the recipients of the scholarship thrive in this exciting program,” Chris Cole, Metrovation’s East Coast Partner and Red Bank resident.

The scholarship program supports students from Monmouth and Ocean counties through a year-long curriculum which includes a one-day orientation in September, two subscription tickets to Two River Theater’s 2006-2007 five-play season, five Saturday Workshops focusing on each of the season’s plays, and the Two River Theater Intensive - an entire day of workshops, master classes and exercises run by teaching artists and Two River staff. The program also provides on-going opportunities for apprenticeships in various disciplines of theater. The goal of the program is to enhance the educational experience of area youth through a hands-on introduction to the themes, ideas, lessons and language of professionally produced theatrical works.

The Metrovation Scholarship / The Play’s the Thing is directed by Kate Cordaro, Director of Education for Two River Theater Company.  Ms. Cordaro is a professional teaching artist, actress, and director. She was classically trained at the prestigious Stella Adler Conservatory through New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and was the recipient of the 1993 Stella Adler Outstanding Achievement Award.

The Play’s the Thing is designed for advanced students who want to dig a little deeper,” said Ms. Cordaro.  “They become immersed in different aspects of theater, from playwriting to directing to design, so they have a clearer understanding of what goes into a professional production.  And to top it off, they’re having a great time.”
