s we open our new facility in Red Bank, we hope we have provided a place where members of our community will come together as active participants in thrilling theatrical innovation. The new theater building will be an arts complex in which we will explore and celebrate the diverse arts music, dance, poetry, painting and th e ways in which theater might develop through cross-pollination. As such, TRTC is poised to become an important gathering place of the worlds most talented and inventive artists, a conservatory where people of all ages can learn, explore and grow by working with professional artists, and a haven where actors, designers, directors, and writers can create work that will exhilarate and inspire.
Since Two River Theater Companys inception, we have endeavored to create exciting new productions of the worlds most provocative and entertaining dramatic work, embracing theater that challenges our minds and hearts. While striking a balance of genres and styles, we hope with each season to explore new artistic territory, inviting our audiences to make the journey with us.
Our aesthetic lies in the belief that great stories, told in imaginative and unusual ways, make for great entertainment, whether it be the inspirational and uplifting story of the great jazz and blues artist Alberta Hunter or the strange and mythological life journey taken by Peer Gynt.
Our work has encompassed plays with music and dance, masks and puppets. Our presentations have included the great classics like Hedda Gabler and Uncle Vanya, strange
and difficult plays like Salome and Thieves Carnival, and controversial contemporary plays like Machinal, La Bête, Reckless and Curse of the Starving Class. Our choices have not gone unnoticed by critics, who have praised the company for its adventurous (Star Ledger) and audacious (The New York Times) spirit.
The new theater provides the physical components, the technical capacities, the artistic atmosphere which will aid and abet the imaginations of actors and audience. With this theater Two River Theater productions will reach new altitudes of artistic excellence.
