Our Diverse Audience

TRTC has made its programs available to all members of the community and is dedicated to providing equal access to all its constituencies, no matter what their special needs may be.

  • Since 1995, TRTC has reached more than 50,000 people. In fiscal year 2001, more than 7,300 attended our theater. In fiscal year 2002, total attendance was over 9,000. Additionally, TRTC has been slowly building a new audience base in the southern Monmouth / Ocean County region.

  • With our productions of Cookin’ at the Cookery and Spunk, we introduced our productions to large African-American audiences. TRTC made strong outreach efforts by offering special programs to African-American church groups and Crossroads Theater subscribers. Likewise, TRTC has strengthened its policy on non-traditional casting, opening all acting roles to members of all ethnic groups.

  • TRTC’s student outreach program has grown significantly, now serving almost 1,000 students per year. This program features very low-cost ($9) and free tickets to local high schools, including the Abbott Schools: Asbury Park, Neptune, Long Branch, and Keansburg.

  • With underwriting from OceanFirst Foundation, TRTC began a Senior Day at the Theater. In addition to subsidizing low-cost ($11) tickets, TRTC assumes the cost of bus transportation for elderly groups who are not able to afford it. TRTC has worked closely with SCAN (Senior Citizen Activities Network) on this effort.

  • Through a program originally funded by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, TRTC began a program to make complimentary and low-cost tickets available to groups from disadvantaged communities, such as AIDS hospices, hospitals, centers for the homeless and service organizations working with the disabled.

  • TRTC offers audio-described performances for blind patrons, Braille and large-print programs, and American Sign Language interpretations.

  • Nationally, the trend shows that in the first year of operations, new theaters experience audience increases of approximately sixty-five percent (65%). Based on this, TRTC anticipates its audience will grow from 9,000 to 14,850 in its first year of operation in the new building.
