Executive Summary

ounded in 1995 by Robert Rechnitz, Two River Theater Company vaulted to eminence as a high-octane regional theater with its very first production. Peter Filichia of the Star Ledger, insisted that TRTC was actually a “long-established company from a far away state.” How else, he asked, could we be “terrific already?” For almost a decade, our growing audience has found an evening spent with Two River a source of the richest pleasure. In concert with the major effort of producing plays, TRTC works to educate the young and teachers of the young, helping them to understand and appreciate theater and its role as a tool for learning, enlightenment, and social change.

The overwhelming success of TRTC’s first few seasons, the widespread support of our community, and the unparalleled critical acclaim we received convinced us that truly to serve the needs of our audience the time had come to build a permanent home of our own. TRTC found the ideal site. Located on the west side of Red Bank, across from The Galleria, the property is centrally placed within the region, easy to reach by car or train and large enough for us to build a unique and fully accessible production space.

Red Bank is the ideal location for this theater. Easily reached from Philadelphia or New York—far enough to escape the pressures of commercial theater, close enough to lure the critics—Red Bank is marvelously situated to attract world class artists in search of a venue to showcase their talents. Conversely, TRTC is ideal for Red Bank. Having been designated a Regional Center by the State of New Jersey, the borough of Red Bank has an obligation to provide our region with a diverse selection of arts and entertainment, not only feeding the community’s need for culture, but fortifying the economy of the region. It is estimated that the theater in Red Bank will bring over $1,600,000 in revenue to area businesses and will create many new jobs.

Now is our time, our moment, and our collective opportunity. The building is complete, but the campaign continues. Please be a part of this important community asset.
