We offer commissions and provide readings, workshops, and artist residencies to benefit both established and emerging writers—and to give our audiences opportunities to invest in new work and interact with artists. We want to inspire a deep engagement with new plays and playwrights among our audiences, and we offer limited open seating to all of our new-works projects. THE BALLAD OF LITTLE JO by Mike Reid and Sarah Schlesinger

Two River Theater invites you to join us for a reading of The Ballad of Little Jo, written by Mike Reid and Sarah Schlesinger (In This House, A Wind in the Willows Christmas). Based on the 1993 film by Maggie Greenwald, this sweeping new musical is inspired by the remarkable true story of Josephine Monaghan, who lived a secret double life as a man named Jo in a 19th-century mining community. Featuring a lush, romantic, exuberant score, The Ballad of Little Jo is presented as part of Two River’s new-play development programs.
The reading features Jenn Colella as Josephine/Jo, and Becca Ayers, Steve Blanchard, Justin Bowen, Charlie Brady, Cole Burden, Andrew Cao, Claybourne Elder, Will Erat, Lizzie Klemperer, Heather MacRae, and Margo Seibert.
